Everybody In, Nobody Out
In January, 1949, President Harry S. Truman gave his State of the Union Address to Congress. In his speech, Truman outlined an agenda that included more funding for education (especially the G.I Bill), increasing the minimum wage, more civil rights for every American, and a national health care program. No one doubted that Democrats were on the side of working families.
Truman's agenda was called the Fair Deal and it represented the best of American values.
Today, while many of the core positions of the Democratic Party remain the same, more and more middle- and working-class families reject the Democratic candidates, even when the alternative is Trump and his MAGA allies. Too often, ordinary Americans fear that we don't share their values and might, for instance, "defund the police."
Fair Deal Democrats is devoted to protecting American values of hard work, safe streets, and opportunity for everyone. We believe that President Biden has brought about real prosperity and improved safety for Americans.
Our mission is to support moderate-leaning Democratic candidates for the U.S House of Representatives who will work with President Biden to enact his full economic agenda, a Fair Deal for the 21st Century.
About
Fair Deal Democrats was created in July, 2023. Originally called Americans for Fair Debt Relief, it initially focused on resolving the student loan debt crisis. While this issue remains a core concern, the feedback we received is that it made more sense to place student loan debt within the broader context of the crisis facing the middle-class Americans. In March, 2024, we changed the name to reflect this change of emphasis.
Our strategy has not changed at all: Fair Deal Democrats exists to support Democratic Congressional candidates trying to defeat Republican incumbents. Any money we raise does directly to electing a Democratic majority in Congress.
We believe the Democratic Party is at its best when it prioritizes the issues directly facing working families. When working-class voters choose Republicans, it is a time to double down on the concerns they face.
Our main issues:

Protect Social Security

Increase the federal minimum wage to at least $10 an hour

Allow student loan debt to be discharged in bankruptcy like every other form of debt

End garnishment of Social Security checks for student loan debt

Improve and extend national health care

Cap the costs for essential medicine and medical supplies
